“Psalm 19:11 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O’Lord, my strength and my redeemer”
The word heart means “understanding” in the Hebrew text. The word meditation means “to mutter, ponder, imagine, speak or utter. If we put the word “heart meditation” together it means “understanding by muttering, pondering, imagining, speaking or uttering.” You see our words and what we expose ourselves to, determine what gets into our hearts. The heart is the foundation of all of us spiritually and physically. If you ever want to know how a person’s character is, 1) look at their friends, 2) their environment, and 3) pay attention to the words of their mouth. This my friend will determine where a person’s heart is. The bible says in Proverbs 23:7, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. We become what we allow in our hearts.
As believers, we need to change our environment and the people around us because:
1 John 4:4 says, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, then he that is in the world.
By God dwelling on the inside of us, we have the power to overcome any circumstance in our lives and ultimately breaking the works of the enemy.
That is why you have to feed your heart the Word of God in order for the power of it to manifest in our lives.
The heart is a communicator and distributor of the human body. It serves as a keeper of courage, faith, intelligence, and compassion. A person becomes who they are by who or what they associate themselves with. In the natural, the condition of our heart determines our life expectancy. For example, the heart is the central most vital organ in the human body. The physical body needs the heart in order to live. The heart’s function is the pump blood and make sure the entire body gets circulation. When the heart stops the entire body shuts down this cause the human body to die. As long as you keep a healthy heart through exercise and eating the right foods, it will extend your life. This is the same spiritually, if you allow people, music, and things to get into your heart that does not edify you. Your spiritual heart will become corrupted and it will die from spiritual malnutrition. Additionally, if you put the word of God in your heart then we have a guide that helps us to know what is holy and acceptable. According to the 1828 Webster Dictionary, the heart is the very seat of the affections and passions, as of love, joy, grief, enmity, courage, and pleasure. Your heart is a gateway to your spirit and whatever you allow to get into your heart it will have an impact on your lifestyle. This is why you cannot allow your heart to become a trash can. You have to protect your eargate, your mouth gate and your eyegate, these gates are the entrance to your spirit. In Proverbs 4:23, it states to, “Keep thy heart with all diligence: for out of it are the issues of life.” It takes a diligent effort to protect your heart from the trash that is in this world.
Our words and actions are affected
The things that are in our heart have a direct impact on our character and behavior. I hear believers often say that they can listen to secular music and link themselves to unbelievers and not be affected. It may not affect you at the very second, but over a course of time it will eventually affect you. King David said it best in Psalm 19:14, let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O’Lord…. Ask yourself man or woman of God, is the music you are listening to, the people you are associating yourself with, or the television program you are watching acceptable in God’s sight? Selah(pause and think about that). Your words of your mouth and the meditation of our heart impact our spiritual walk. You see your heart has thoughts and it meditates on whatever it is exposed whether it is good or bad.
Hebrews 4:12 says, “The word of God is quick and powerful sharper than any two edged sword dividing asunder the soul and spirit and to the joints and marrow which is a discerner of the thoughts and the intents of the hearts.
The Word of God impacts you spiritually and physically according to this verse. You notice the Word says the “thoughts and intents of the heart” Things can enter into you heart without you even knowing it. The word of God discerns the heart and keeps it spiritually healthy. Praise God! The Word of God is the standard whereby we set our lives and our hearts. God desires to commune and fellowship with us.
