There is a time in our lives where we have all experienced loneliness of some kind. You might have lost loved ones, moved to a different city, state or country. You might have even started a new job, there is a sense of loneliness. It comes with a deep grief and discomfort and you feel as though that you are all by yourself. I got a great news for you! Feeling lonely is not always a negative thing because it is a way for God to really show you how much He loves you. Oftentimes, we have to be alone so we can be totally dependent on God and hear solely his voice rather than the noise from human life and things around you. Even if you are forced to be in that lonely, dark place by default or by mistake….God is still there with you and make all things right. His grace is sufficient(2 Cor 12:9). God says in His word that He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deut 31:6). In those times of disappointment or when the very persons you trusted lose faith in you or give up on you…..it can be lonely place, I have been there. God is there He never gives up on you because He loves with an everlasting love. God is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.(Prov 18:24).
You see when a seed is planted in the ground it has to die first. Jesus said himself in John 12:24-25, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat(seed) fall into the ground and die it abides alone: but if it die it brings forth much fruit. Also a seed is planted in the darkness of the ground where no one sees it. For example, when you see a strong tree or beautiful flower, they both start off as a seed. The seed has to die and out of it comes its roots to plant itself in the soil. After the root and stem are established, it forces itself out of darkness of the soil of the ground. The tree or flower stretches forth into the light for all the world to see how beautiful and strong it has become. You see that seed was a flower, tree, and fruit the whole time but it took someone to plant that seed and water it to see it bloom to its full potential.
We are that seed that God has planted in the earth to bloom and grow to walk in the purpose and plan He has for us. He waters us so we can bloom in that calling and purpose. My friend and brother or sister you may be depressed even to the point of suicide. Change your thinking and embrace God’s love and rejoice! God has given us a gift called life, Jesus died so we can have life and have it more abundantly(John 10:10). Be free and live!
Loneliness periods are wilderness periods, great men and women have experienced them. Adversity has a way of shaping our character and bringing forth greatness. Just like Paul, after his conversion at the road to Damascus(Acts 9:4-9) he went to receive the revelation of Jesus Christ, he did not consult with man during this time(Gal 1:11-24). He was in his period of loneliness(wilderness), it was just him and God. Greatness was being birthed in Paul and he became one of the greatest apostles in history. He wrote two thirds of the new testament and he left a legacy for centuries. A murderer and a slanderer against God and used for God for greatness…. Look at Jesus..
In Luke 4:1-21, he was going through a wilderness himself when he faced the enemy. He was without water and food, not only that he was without His family or friends. It was just him and the devil. This is before He started his ministry or had his disciples. This my friend was a lonely and dark place, but God was still with him. He needed to go through this, so the power of God can manifest in His life. In the words of one of my big brothers, Pastor Turnbough, supermen are built in the wilderness. My wife and I call it Wilderness University. It is uncomfortable, painful and a sacrificial. You are being built up, established, rooted and you learn what you are really made of. Birthing is taking place in that place of wilderness. People see the fruit after the wilderness but they do not see that root that was established. I can imagine that Jesus was going through mental and physical anguish. The scripture says in Hebrews 4:15, He was in all points tempted like as we are. He was hungry, weak and being constantly tempted by the devil in the fleshly state which can be down right exhausting. When Jesus defeated the devil with the word of God and the bible says that the devil left for a season.(v.13). The bible says in Luke 4:14, that Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit(fired up!) because he was stronger, wiser, bolder and focused more on his God given assignment.
You may feel you are in a lonely place, you might feel thrown away and you may be depressed because of it. Don’t!! God is not done with you and He is preparing you for your assignment. Listen to Him, lean on Him, embrace His love. God is always talking and He wants to love on you. He never leaves you. Man may give up on you, but God never does. Don’t give up because God has not given up on you. If He did, He would not have sent His only Begotten Son to die on the cross for you. So embrace your wilderness as preparation for greater…….greatness and much success. I love you and expect nothing but greatness from God. He is always on your side.
